Andrew and I always tell Toby, ‘Do you know you live a better life than most people in the world, and you don’t even know it.’
It is funny that Toby doesn’t realise how lucky he is, how much time and effort we put into his furry little life to make sure the very short amount of time he has with us is an enjoyable one.
But then again, we feel like we are the lucky ones. Toby has been a great teacher and has taught us a lot in the short 2.5 years he has been in our lives.
When we look at the way Toby lives his life, how all dogs live their lives, and you analyse their personality, their character, there is so much that these four legged things can teach us.
Toby has taught us to:
Care and love deeply, when you see loved ones, always run up to greet them, show them, sincerely, just how happy you are to see them.
Enjoy the simple things in life, as long as you are with the people you love, it doesn’t matter where you are or what you have.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a car ride, you never know where the ride will take you.
Go for walks and just enjoy the fresh air, the sights, the smells and make sure the people you pass, you look at them in the eye and smile.
Sometimes all you need to boost your mood is to roll down the window, stick your head out, close your eyes and let the fresh air burst into your face.
Listen to your body and slow down and rest when you feel like you can’t go on anymore.
Take naps, even if you have just gotten up, it’s OK to go back to sleep if you want.
Take care of your body, stretch before you get up.
Only drink water, it is all you need to keep your body hydrated and functioning.
Run and play daily, it is good for the soul, it will make you happy and other people will see you happy, making them feel happy in return.
Don’t shy away from attention, thrive on it, show people the reasons why you stand out.
Find that spot in the house where the morning or late afternoon sunshine streams through, lie there and let the light warm up your body and soul.
Let people hug you and let them tell you how wonderful you are.
Drink lots of water on hot days and find the coolest place to hang out in.
When you are happy show the world by wagging your tail, people don’t see enough happiness on a daily basis.
Be loyal and true to the people who care for you.
Make new friends regardless of what they look like, who they are or their social status.
Don’t be afraid to tell people how you feel, they can help you.
Don’t pretend to be something you’re not, it takes all sorts of creatures to make the world go round.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent and just sit close by to let them know you are there, you don’t need to do anymore than that.
Every morning, be happy that you are alive, because you are the lucky one, you get the privilege of experiencing another day on Earth.
Isn’t it just amazing what a dog can do, how much they can teach you by just being their true self.
Have a great week, everyone.
