To Our Sweet Child,
Thomas, you’re 6 months old!
It feels like only yesterday we met for the first time. However, on the other hand, it feels like we have been together for years and years. In the last couple of weeks you have been growing and changing right in front of our eyes. Every day you do something that shows us that you are not a little baby anymore. For example, you can bottle feed yourself. When you did that for the first time the other day, it blew your mama and papa away. We were proud and sad.
You’re eating solids now and you love your food, which isn’t a surprise. You laugh and laugh and squeal in delight when you see us preparing your food. Your eating from a spoon technique is pretty bad. When you see the spoon you try and aim for it with your mouth and completely miss, it’s hilarious. Yesterday, your eye got a massive spoonful of carrot, you didn’t like that. Your favourite foods at the moment are banana and avocado.
You have started to reach for our faces and sometimes you oh so gently place both your little hands on our cheeks and you smile and slow blink, it is the most delightful thing to witness. But that doesn’t last long because very quickly you go a bit crazy and pinch and claw us and angry scream. That’s when we tell you to get your kitten claws away from us. You have left many lovely little scratches on our faces.
Sometimes you won’t go down for your afternoon nap. When this happens I climb into your cot with you and I hug you and sing ‘5 Little Ducks Go Out One Day’ very softly into your ear. I always lose count as to what number duck I’m up to so I sing, ‘1 little duck goes out on day, over the hill and far away, mother duck says, quack, quack, quack and only 1 little duck comes back’ over and over again until you fall asleep. You fall asleep to that song every time.
Thomas River, you are so loved. You are an awesome little baby and we thank you for making the last 6 months crazy fun.
Happy half a year, child.
