When we lived in Melbourne Toby went to Doggy Daycare every Wednesday. He loved it there, playing and interacting with other dogs, going for walks in the park and stopping by cafes for a Doggy Chino. Whenever I picked him up at the end of the day he was exhausted. He could barely get into the car before collapsing in a heap and sleeping for the next day and a half.
I loved Doggy Daycare too as it gave me a day off. On a Wednesday, I didn’t have to get up early before work to walk Toby for an hour and I didn’t have to rush home (oh, the guilt of leaving your fur baby at home all day!) to take him for another walk.
The added bonus of Daycare was it allowed me to have someone I trust look after Toby when we went away for the weekend or overseas on holidays without having to worry who would look after Toby and keep him safe and happy while we were away.
Now that we have moved interstate we have the issue of not having anyone to look after Toby when we are away. Sure we have our friends who we’re happy to ask to look after him for a day or two but when we go on holidays we don’t want to burden them with looking after Toby for long periods of time.
We’re going overseas at the end of the year and as much as we want Toby to come, he can’t. And even though it’s still six months away, I’m stressing over it. Who is going to look after him? Who can I ask that I know will want him for 3 weeks? Do I fly him to Melbourne so my sister can look after him?
Holidays are meant to be fun and relaxing but for a lot of us pet owners thinking about leaving them behind and finding suitable accommodation can cause stress. Then on holidays you find yourself worrying and wondering, are they lonely? Are they okay? Are the people they’re with treating them well?
I was recently introduced to PetCloud a service that lets you find pet care in real homes by searching for local and insured dog sitters in your neighbourhood.
PetCloud is an Australian start-up that connects caring pet sitters with pet owners who need someone to look after their beloved family member while they are away. Sitters on the PetCloud platform can host pets in their own home, or they can be available to house sit so the pet doesn’t have to leave their home.
Like Airbnb, the PetCloud team do a lot of the legal work to make sure everyone involved feels comfortable and confident in the pet sitting experience.
PetCloud is also partnered with the RSPCA across most states in Australia. And with every booking you make a contribution to the RSPCA as PetCloud gives 20% of all the profits back to the RSPCA. Win, win.
For more information on how it works, how to find a loving person to look after your furchild or if you want to be that loving person who looks after a pet, take a look at their website here.
In other great news, PetCloud is giving all Toby Wigglebottom readers 10% off their first booking with PetCloud from June 18 until January 1st, 2017 (minimum spend $60). Just use the discount code – TOBYWIG10 when booking.
^ Let me have a search to see what lovely people are out there that can look after me while my family is away.
^ OK, let’s see if I have everything packed. My teddy, my ball, my coat, my kibble and a photo of my family. Think that’s it.
^ This is the part I hate, saying goodbye to mum. She promises to bring me the best block of cheese back from her holiday.
