Dearest Child Of Ours, You have now been Earth side for 4 weeks. You have slotted into our family effortlessly, it feels like you were always supposed to be here. You are beyond loved by each member of your family, especially your brothers. You furry brother is a big fan of yours and is always by your side, he wasn’t like that when Thomas was your age. Your brother, Thomas LOVES you and showers you with kisses all day long. As your Papa says to everyone, ‘We didn’t even train Thomas to do that.’ We actually have to beg for any […]

The Birth Of Our Son

Posted in: Baby
1st-september-2016-2

It’s almost four weeks since our second beautiful boy was born. Time flies when you’re not pregnant. Now that our son is here I can say, I was hoping it would be him. I wanted a boy just a tiny bit more than a girl. Reason being, I wanted to give Thomas a best friend he can grow up with, to go through life with and hopefully develop a friendship and bond that will last through to adulthood. What I love about my life is that I live with my best friend. Home is always a place I want to […]

Pregnancy #2 Coming To An End

Posted in: Baby
23rd August 2016

You may have noticed I haven’t talked about this pregnancy that is coming to an end at all on the Blog. I guess because there is nothing great to say about it. All I can do is whinge and no one wants to hear that. But now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel I thought I better say something before this Baby is here. The truth is, I have found being pregnant with a toddler very challenging. It’s been hard, harder than I ever thought possible. I have been so uncomfortable for so long, I […]

Reading With A Toddler

Posted in: Baby
June 17th 2016

What I’m missing most about teaching is reading books with the kids every morning and having wonderful, meaningful discussions about the story afterwards. In my classroom we would start every morning off with a book and discuss whether the book we just read was a quality book. I remember once purposefully sourcing out a particularly bad book and reading it to the class. As soon as I finished reading the last word one of my students called out, ‘Now that was NOT a quality book!’ I loved that they had gotten to the point of identifying what makes a quality book. […]

Sharing

4th July 2016 (19)

This Toby of ours is the greatest furball there ever was. We are continually in awe of him. We find ourselves saying we need to be more like Toby all the time. He has the qualities we wish we could display on a daily basis. Kind, patient, loyal, understanding, the list goes on. I have said this before, but Toby has helped me throughout the last 16 months with this whole parenting gig. He knows when we need him and he knows when he needs to give us some space. I have needed Toby a lot since Thomas was born. From […]

Toys From The Op Shop

Posted in: Baby
op 17

Thanks to our uni lifestyle we can’t splash out on the things we did when we were both working full time. We have made sacrifices, said, ‘No,’ to a lot of things and we watch our spending on a daily basis. Being careful with our money has made me look at ways we can still obtain what we need without breaking the bank. One thing I have discovered is toys at the Op Shop (which is a Thrift Shop or a Charity Shop, for those international readers). And my gosh, are there some great things that cost a dollar or […]

Food Thomas Loves (& Toby Too)

Posted in: Baby
19th May 2016 (7)

Thomas’ eating habits are improving and meal times are becoming less stressful. Everything started to change when I was told, if children under the age of 5 are eating one adult’s recommended serving plate a week, that’s enough. Now if Thomas doesn’t finish a meal or doesn’t even eat half of it, I don’t get frustrated. Instead, we finish up, clean up and get on with our day. My shift in attitude has worked wonders for us and meal times are much more enjoyable. A food we have found that both Thomas and Toby love is edamame. It’s such a quick and […]

Toby Goes For A Ride

Posted in: Baby Dog
7th May 2016 (11)

Thomas is obsessed with pushing his pram around. I’ll take him to the park and instead of using the play equipment he’ll go straight for the pram. It’s cute and annoying. We have realised, if we want him to interact with his surroundings, we can’t take the pram with us. At the moment, Thomas is at that stage where he wants to communicate with us but doesn’t have the language skills to do so. He’ll babble away in his own language and when we don’t do what he’s asking, he’ll scream in frustration. Toby gets this kind of treatment too […]

Food Thomas Loves

Posted in: Baby
apricot lamb 26

One of the hardest things about motherhood for me is meal times with Thomas. When solids were first introduced to him he seemed to love everything I gave him. We had fun. I don’t know when, but at some point Thomas decided he wasn’t a fan of food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner has become a struggle and quiet frankly it’s my least favourite time of the day. I feel anxious and frustrated every time we sit down to eat because it’s such an unpleasant time for both of us. You can imagine my relief when I find recipes that Thomas […]

1 Years Old!

Thomas' 1st Bday birthday cake

Dearest Child of Ours, And just like that, you’re 1. As I say to your Papa, this year has been the longest, shortest year of my life. It feels like you’ve been with us for years and years but then on the other hand, it feels like we just met for the first time. This year has been the best year of our lives and that’s all your doing, Kid. I don’t know what you have done, but you have changed us. The way we view life, the things we want, our feelings towards the world, they have all shifted […]
